Highly skilled mechanical work in the maintenance and repair of automotive and construction equipment. Acts as “troubleshooter” in determining mechanical problems on a wide variety of equipment such as cars, trucks, tractors, stationary engines, pumps, and small portable equipment powered by internal combustion engines fueled with gasoline, diesel, and natural gas. Perform front/end repairs including wheel alignments and some tire balancing. Perform transmission repairs, clutch repairs (single and double disc), electrical system repairs, change batteries, starters, alternators and wiring. Test drives vehicles in back lot in order to perform job duties. May supervise subordinate mechanics and assistants; performs related work as required. This position is also an essential, emergency duty status worker and may not be relieved of duty when the Parish President or his designee recommends a voluntary or mandatory evacuation of Jefferson Parish. Position requires driving of a Parish vehicle, thus possession of a valid driver’s license and acceptable driving record will be given preference.
