Under general supervision, the purpose of the position is to supervise, coordinate and perform electrical inspection, code enforcement and related administrative tasks and personnel within an assigned office. Employee performs the technical review of plans and specifications for new installations of street lights in new subdivisions; notifies Street Lighting Division Manager of approvals and disapprovals, in accordance with the Parish Code of Ordinances and the National Electrical Code. Advises the Street Lighting Division Manager of the use and repair of street lights, and keeps the Street Lighting Division Manager informed on the latest trends in the area of street lighting. Personally meets with contractors on the job site to perform inspections, troubleshoots street lighting problems and insures that work is performed in accordance with contract provisions and all electrical codes and regulations. Inspections consist of inspecting piles, foundations, foundation pours as it relates to electrical work, installation of conduit, standards, wiring, fuse holder assemblies, and feed points. Employee goes out into the field to ascertain need for street lights throughout unincorporated Jefferson Parish as well as does night runs and Night Inspections. Checks and approves or rejects applications for Electrical installations, reviews layouts and specifications, and advises contractors, architects, engineers and others on legal requirements of codes and ordinances. Prepares and maintains record installations, inspections certificates of approval and As-built drawings. This position is an essential, emergency duty status worker and may not be relieved of duty when the Parish President or their designee recommends a voluntary or mandatory evacuation of Jefferson Parish. Position requires driving of a Parish vehicle necessitating a class D license, thus possession of a valid Class D Driver’s license and acceptable driving record will be given preference.
