This work is semi-skilled, and may include several manual or mechanical jobs involving the use of common tools, simple repairs and work as general helpers. A trades helper may work in an auto shop, a plant, cleaning and servicing machines, or as an oiler on heavy equipment, or a helper to an electrician or other tradesman. Trades Helpers may aid and assist mechanics, electricians, welders, and carpenters in maintaining plat, lift, line, and pump station operations. Some trades helpers are required to drive small trucks, pick up parts, and make road calls to change tires. Certain positions require driving of a Parish vehicle, thus possession of a valid driver’s license and acceptable driving record will be given preference. This position is also an essential, emergency duty status worker and may not be relieved of duty when the Parish President or their designee recommends a voluntary or mandatory evacuation of Jefferson Parish.
NOTE: Selective certification of eligibles with a valid Louisiana Class D driver’s license or higher will be used in filling some vacancies.
